Before you rent
How bicycle rental works
Rental periods may range from a few hours to several days or longer. Terms differ between providers, so confirm the return time, late-return procedure and what happens if the bicycle develops a fault.
Bring valid identification and expect the provider to explain its deposit or security requirements. Before agreeing, read the theft and damage conditions carefully. Do not assume every incident is covered: exclusions, excess charges and lock requirements may apply.
Prevent bicycle theft
Always lock the bicycle, even during a very short stop. Use every supplied lock exactly as the rental provider demonstrates and, where permitted, secure the frame to a fixed bicycle stand. Keep any key or claim ticket with you.
Traditional upright bicycles suit relaxed city riding, but the available selection may also include geared bicycles, e-bikes, tandems, cargo bikes, children's bicycles or sportier models. Ask whether child seats, helmets, panniers or trailers are available if your group needs them.
A pump and repair kit may not be included. For a city rental, the most important arrangement is knowing whom to contact and what to do if you have a puncture or mechanical problem.
Availability can become limited in busy periods, particularly for children's bicycles, cargo bicycles and larger groups. Reserving ahead is sensible, but confirm current opening, collection and cancellation terms directly with the provider.
