The route story

Following Van Gogh through Brabant

Vincent van Gogh lived for significant periods in Brabant, where ordinary people, buildings and rural work became important subjects in his drawings and paintings. This route brings those places together as a cycle journey.

From his birthplace in Zundert, the route reaches Etten-Leur, Tilburg, ’s-Hertogenbosch and Nuenen. Along the way are landscapes and buildings associated with his work, including the area linked with The Potato Eaters and the old watermill at Opwetten.

Near Nuenen, a luminous cycle path interprets the swirling light of The Starry Night. Its design makes this more than a conventional heritage itinerary: the ride connects the historic landscape with a contemporary response to Van Gogh’s work.
