The Rhine Cycle Route is the Dutch section of an international journey following one of Europe’s great rivers through Switzerland, France, Germany and the Netherlands.
In the Netherlands, the route runs from the German border at Millingen to Hook of Holland. An alternative alignment follows the River Waal, giving riders another way to explore the broad waterways of the delta.
The route moves between classic Dutch river scenery, villages and historic fortified towns such as Dordrecht. Farther west, Rotterdam introduces an urban contrast with its harbour, bridges and modern architecture before the route reaches the North Sea.
Natural landscapes are central to the journey. Riders can encounter the wetlands of De Biesbosch as well as river reserves around Millingenwaard and Blauwe Kamer. Kinderdijk’s windmills provide one of the route’s best-known cultural landmarks.
